From Discomfort to Desire: Pelvic Floor Therapy for Sexual Health with Daniel Johnson, DPT, PRPC

Sexual pain and dysfunction can take a heavy toll on intimacy, relationships, and overall quality of life—yet these challenges are too often overlooked or misunderstood. This training shines a light on the crucial role of pelvic floor therapy in restoring sexual well-being and enhancing whole-person care.

Led by Daniel Johnson, PT, DPT, PRPC, this dynamic session is designed for mental health and medical providers who want to deepen their understanding of how physical factors contribute to sexual pain and difficulty. Through interactive discussion, guided reflection, and practical examples, participants will:

  • Identify common pelvic floor conditions that impact desire, arousal, and sexual function.

  • Understand how pelvic floor therapy addresses the physical contributors to sexual dysfunction and supports healing.

  • Recognize when referral or collaboration with a pelvic floor therapist can improve patient outcomes and overall well-being.

More than just theory, this training emphasizes inclusive, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care. Participants will be invited to explore their own assumptions, reflect on unconscious biases, and practice language and approaches that create safe, affirming spaces for clients across diverse cultural, gender, and sexual identities.

While engaging lectures and demonstrations provide a strong foundation, role-play and live discussions ensure that attendees leave not only informed, but more confident, competent, and comfortable initiating sexual health conversations in their practice.

By the end of this session, you’ll walk away with practical skills, a deeper understanding of the intersections of mind and body in sexual health, and renewed confidence in supporting clients on their journey from discomfort to desire.
