Format: Live, synchronous webinar | 1 hour

Target Audience: Clinical Mental Health Providers
CE Credits: 1 continuing education credit
Certificates Available: ASWB, AASECT, THGI
Course Description
This live case consultation session brings together participants from the Sexual Health Series for Mental Health Professionals to apply what they have learned to real clinical material. Led by Douglas Braun-Harvey, the session invites attendees to bring a case involving out-of-control sexual behavior, sex/drug-linked behavior, or the partner experience of these presentations for group discussion. Through guided case review, participants will practice translating sexual health principles into clinical formulation and intervention planning, with direct feedback from an expert in the field.
This session is designed as a capstone to the broader series, giving clinicians the opportunity to test their understanding of the Stages of Change model, sex/drug-linked behavior, and the partner's experience against the complexity of an actual case, in the company of peers working through similar clinical questions.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this training, attendees will be able to:
Apply sexual health principles and out-of-control sexual behavior treatment frameworks to real clinical cases presented in a group consultation format.
Analyze case material through the lens of the Sexual Health Model to identify clinical strengths, gaps, and opportunities for intervention.
Integrate peer and expert feedback into case conceptualization and treatment planning for clients presenting with out-of-control sexual behavior.
Limitations, Risks, & Benefits
This training presents a limited amount of information and is not intended to be comprehensive; clinicians who desire additional depth are encouraged to pursue further training. The session is delivered via an online platform, and there are no anticipated risks beyond the possibility that some attendees may find their assumptions or worldview challenged. Because case material will be discussed openly among the group, participants may experience some vulnerability when presenting their own clinical work or engaging with sensitive case content. Benefits include the opportunity to deepen understanding of the material presented and to translate that understanding directly into clinical practice, increasing attendees' confidence and competence in working with clients around sexual health.
Cultural Sensitivity
This training emphasizes honoring the worth and dignity of every person while advancing social justice in healthcare. It invites participants to reflect on their own unconscious biases and to consider the intersections of race, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural norms as they arise in the cases discussed, recognizing that all human beings are sexual and are shaped by a range of social and systemic influences on their sexual history and sense of sexuality.
Course Content
This case consultation session is the capstone of a three-part training series exploring stages of change and out-of-control sexual behavior, sex/drug-linked behavior, and the partner's experience of out-of-control sexual behavior. Participants are invited to bring a clinical case for group discussion with Douglas Braun-Harvey, who will guide the session using the sexual health principles and clinical frameworks introduced throughout the series. The discussion format allows attendees to work through real-world clinical complexity, ask questions specific to their own caseloads, and receive direct input from both the presenter and their peers.
Relevance
This training draws on research and clinical data to support informed treatment interventions and recommendations. It aligns with core social work principles, including the dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, and a commitment to social justice, equipping clinicians to engage in critical case conversations that reduce stigma and empower clients navigating sexual health and relationship concerns. By applying sexual health principles to real clinical material, this session supports AASECT's foundational requirements for certification and strengthens participants' ability to create safe, affirming spaces for clients across diverse cultural, gender, and sexual identities.
